BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said necessary reforms should be made to conduct elections, and through these elections, the existing problems in the country must be resolved.
He made these remarks during an Iftar gathering hosted by BNP at the Ladies Club on Friday afternoon in the capital to honour professionals. He shared his thoughts on the current political situation.
The BNP leader expressed joy at being able to organise the event in a free, fascism-free environment, something that hadn’t been possible for nearly 15 years. Fakhrul acknowledged the absence of party chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia, who is receiving medical treatment abroad, and party’s acting chairman, who remains in exile due to ongoing legal issues.
He emphasised the importance of the educated professionals present at the event, noting that they play a vital role in influencing public opinion and shaping the nation’s future. He discussed the difficult times the country is facing under a fascist government, which was ousted by a mass uprising of students and people.
Fakhrul reiterated the BNP’s commitment to reforms, citing party leader Tarique Rahman’s 31-point reform agenda introduced two years ago, which aimed at bringing about significant changes. He further said that the interim government had formed a reform commission, and BNP was actively engaged in monitoring and providing feedback on their proposals.
