Senior Joint Secretary General of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed, emphasized that only an elected government can genuinely work for the people.

Speaking at a press conference at the BNP central office in Nayapaltan yesterday, Rizvi pointed out that the interim government, which took office two months ago, must prioritize public welfare and address critical issues like dengue prevention.

Rizvi highlighted that significant efforts were made during recent floods under both government and private initiatives, emphasizing the importance of proactive governance.

He urged the interim government to implement comprehensive programs to curb the dengue outbreak, criticizing the previous administration led by Sheikh Hasina for purchasing substandard medical equipment during the COVID-19 pandemic. “We saw people suffer due to a lack of oxygen and poor-quality equipment,” he remarked.

Reflecting on the economic challenges faced during the pandemic, Rizvi criticized the lack of rehabilitation efforts for those who lost jobs. He stressed that the current interim government, born from the students-people uprising, should take more active measures to tackle health crises like dengue, as it is a recurring issue in the country.

He further noted that the BNP has been providing medical support through free camps, in line with instructions from Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. He added that BNP-affiliated doctors, including Ishraq Hossain and Tabith Awal, are conducting awareness campaigns and offering assistance to dengue-affected residents, continuing the party’s commitment to public health.
