One-Stop Crisis Center should be made dynamic : Sharmin Murshid

Sharmin S Murshid, Advisor to the Ministry of Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs of the interim government, said that the One-Stop Crisis Center (OCC) should be made more dynamic to prevent violence against women and children. Public awareness should be created about calling the national helpline 109 to seek services.
She said these things during her inspection of the One-Stop Crisis Center (OCC) under the Multisectoral Program for Prevention of Violence Against Women of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs of MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet on Sunday, January 12.
During the inspection, the advisor was accompanied by MAG Osmani Medical College Principal Professor Dr. Md. Ziaur Rahman Chowdhury, Director of Osmani Medical College Hospital Brigadier General Umar Rashed Munir, Head of the Department of Gynecology and Obstetrics Professor Dr. Nasreen Akhtar, Head of Forensic Medicine Department Dr. Md. Shamsul Islam, Deputy Director Dr. Soumitra Chakraborty, etc.
Advisor Sharmin S Murshid instructed the officials present on how to provide better medical services and legal assistance with the existing manpower. She assured that initiatives will be taken to establish a forensic and DNA profiling lab in a separate complex in Sylhet to make the One-Stop Crisis Center (OCC) more effective. The advisor set a time limit of one week for the Osmani Medical College and Hospital authorities to submit a detailed report with recommendations on what problems exist in providing effective services at the OCC and how they can be resolved.
During the inspection, Sharmin S Murshid inquired about the medical treatment of the victims of the student-public uprising at Osmani Medical.
Meanwhile, the Director of Osmani Medical College Hospital mentioned that the July Foundation district committee will be provided with all kinds of information to quickly and accurately finalize the list of those injured in the mass uprising of students and the public in July-August.
Earlier, Advisor Sharmin S. Murshid visited the day care center of the Ministry of Women and Children Affairs in Raynagar in the city. Later, she visited the teenage club of Baishitila Government Primary School in Sadar Upazila.
