A sixteen-year-old was raped allegedly by a local leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League in Narsingdi’s Raipura upazila on Thursday night.
The victim’s father filed a case against Asadul Haque Chowdhury Shakil, Raipura upazila unit president of the BCL on charges of raping the girl and another person for assisting Asadul, with Raipura Police Station, said Mohsin Quadir, Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Raipura Police Station.
The schoolgirl has been kept under police custody, our Brahmanbaria correspondent reports quoting the police official.
“We are investigating the matter and are trying to arrest the accused involved in the incident,” said the OC.
Quoting the case statement, OC Mohsin Quadir said Asadul proposed to marry the 10th grader and called her to Raju Auditorium around 10:00pm on Thursday and later raped the girl around 11:00pm.
On hearing screams of the victim, locals rush to the spot but Asadul managed to flee the scene. Locals called the National Emergency Service-999 and informed the matter.
A team of Raipura Police Station rescued the victim and took her to the police station, added the statement.
Hasibul Hasan Mintu, acting president of Narsingdi unit BCL, told our correspondent that the matter is under legal process. The party will take organisational steps against Asadul if the allegation brought against him is proven true.
