The Zakiganj Police recovered the body of an old man from a paddy field on the side of the road in Atgram (Madannagar) area of Kajalsar Union in Zakiganj Upazila of Sylhet on Saturday morning (August 2). The deceased has been identified as Mahmud Ali (65). He is a resident of Barachatol village in Lakshi Prasad Union No. 1 of Kanaighat Upazila and is the son of the deceased Abdul Gafur.
Locals said that Mahmud Ali was an old man. Once he used to earn a living by driving a rickshaw. Currently, he was quite financially well-off.
His death has created a sensation in the area.
His used torch light, shoes and a hand glove were found next to the body. The paddy in the field was also intact and tidy. This information has increased mystery and suspicion among the locals.
Locals claim that this is not a natural death but a planned murder. They have drawn the attention of the administration to conduct a proper investigation into the incident and bring the culprits to justice.
Zakiganj Police Station visited the scene, recovered the body and sent it to Sylhet MAG Osmani Hospital for autopsy.
