Old man, daughter-in-law found murdered in Bogura
NN Online:
An elderly man and his daughter-in-law were found dead under suspicious circumstances at their home in Dupchanchia upazila of Bogura on Tuesday night, in what police suspect to be a double homicide.
The deceased were identified as Aftab Ali, 65, and Riva Akhtar, 35, residents of Lakshmindal village in Jiyanagar union. Aftab had been living with Riva while his son, Shahjahan, works in Saudi Arabia.
According to police and local sources, the two had dinner together and later retired to their respective bedrooms. The next morning, Riva’s five-year-old daughter discovered her mother’s body and began crying, alerting neighbors who rushed in and found both victims dead in separate rooms. Authorities were immediately informed.
Faridul Islam, officer-in-charge of Dupchanchia Police Station, said the bodies were recovered and sent to Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital for autopsies. “We are investigating all possible angles—including family conflict, previous enmity, or attempted robbery,” he said.
Law enforcers suspect that intruders broke into the house during the night, strangling Aftab with a rope and Riva with a scarf before fleeing the scene.
Investigations are being carried out jointly by local police and the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) to identify those responsible for the killings.
