A credible media report highlights a heartbreaking story that poor Afghans are selling their young girls to buy food and survive through the present severe crisis of livelihood. Life has gotten harder since the Taliban takeover as poor Afghans lack jobs and means of subsistence. A father sold his 9 year old girl recently as a bride for 2,200 dollar to an old man in the fifties but practically she is going to be a domestic slave to face beating and other disgraces. Her father earlier sold her 12-year-old sister several months ago. They had dreams of a bright future. They would attend schools and colleges to become teachers or engineers. Hunger pushed some families to make such heartrending decisions, especially as the brutal winter approaches. The situation turns desperate as international aid dries up and the Afghan economy collapses. It is terribly shocking that increasing numbers of poor families are selling their children for want of food and work. They have little choice. But the question arises how long such small money can help such poor families to survive. The Afghan war has left the nation hapless and the poor who had earlier lived in camps on humanitarian help now find themselves abandoned. We are appalled why the international humanitarian help has dried up when it should have rather increased. The most intriguing question is why the US government has shut the helpline apparently because they have lost the war.
Blocking humanitarian aid and Afghan government money in US banks is a big crime. Forcing other countries or the World Bank and IMF to block the Afghan money is similarly inhuman when the Afghan people need it most to buy food and create jobs. It is not unknown to the Americans that poor Afghans are selling their girls only to buy food. They can’t keep their eyes shut and we would say the US and its allies must pay reparation to the Afghans for their crimes such as killing the Afghans, plundering their resourses and rape of their women. US crimes have created the vulnerable situation for the Afghans and it must come up with help to mitigate the crisis.
Let the US do the mistakes against Muslim countries but oil rich countries must help the poor Afghans who are forced to sell their children for food. But how Muslim countries fabulously rich with God given oil remain inhumanly indifferent to the sufferings of children being sold by their parents because they don’t have money to buy food.
We want and demand Saudi Arabia and other highly rich Muslim countries to provide funds urgently so that the children are returned to their parents after receiving the price money back. They must prove human feelings for poor Muslims and not waste their unearned easy money for enjoying Western filthy pleasures. Be civilised, be human.
