North South University (NSU) and Calcutta University (CU) in India have come together to celebrate the 162nd birth anniversary of poet Rabindranath Tagore through three-day academic and cultural events at NSU’s campus.
On Sunday, a faculty and student delegation from Calcutta University met NSU’s Vice-Chancellor Prof Atiqul Islam.
Welcoming the delegation, Prof Atiqul Islam highlighted the numerous cultural similarities between the people of two friendly neighbors. He emphasized preserving Bengali culture through collaboration with Calcutta University.
Prof Kingshuk Chatterjee, chairman of the Department of History at Calcutta University, hoped for a better future through such cultural exchanges.
Prof M Ismail Hossain, pro vice-chancellor of NSU, Prof Amit Dey of the Department of History at Calcutta University, deans from School of Health & Life Sciences, School of Engineering & Physical Sciences and School of Humanities & Social Sciences NSU, Prof M Emdadul Haq, chair of NSU’s Department of History and Philosophy, and Dr Sharifuddin Ahmed, professor of NSU’s Department of History and Philosophy also attended.
As part of the three-day celebration, NSU’s Cine and Drama Club staged the drama “Raktakorobi” at NSU auditorium in the evening.
The visiting delegates from Calcutta University will also join a day-long Boishakhi Fair on Monday at the NSU Campus, to be inaugurated by Industries Minister Nurul Majid Mahmud Humayun, MP, in the morning.
In the afternoon on Monday, a joint seminar by NSU and Calcutta University on the aspects Bangladesh-West Bengal’s history and heritage will be organized and the vice-chancellor of CU will join online.
A joint cultural program featuring students from both universities will be organized on Tuesday.
This visit from the Calcutta delegation follows the partnership agreement signed between the two universities on January 13, 2023.
