NSTU Correspondent:

Students of Hazrat Bibi Khadija Hall, a female residential dormitory at Noakhali Science and Technology University (NSTU), staged a protest late last night after male staff reportedly entered their rooms during a raid to seize electronic cooking appliances.

The protest began around 12:30 am on Tuesday night after the hall administration conducted an inspection earlier in the evening to confiscate electric cooking equipment. Several students alleged that male staff entered their rooms without prior permission, sparking anger and concern among the residents.

Speaking to this correspondent, multiple students expressed their outrage. “We were shocked and did not even get time to cover ourselves properly. Suddenly, some male staff entered our floor. It was embarrassing and terrifying,” said one student.

Another resident, requesting anonymity, said, “I was sleeping when they knocked and came in with some female staff and two male staff members. We were caught completely off guard. I don’t think it is appropriate for male staff to enter our rooms without knocking.”

A student further alleged, “Even some office staff, dining workers, and a few teachers entered the rooms during the search. I try to maintain modesty, but I was completely unprepared. Is this how things should be done in a civilised way?”

When contacted, the hall’s Provost Prof Dr Abdul KaiyumMasud said, “There is no scope for male staff to enter female students’ rooms first. Usually, female staff lead such drives and male staff accompany them. I have not received any official complaint yet. I was present during the drive and I will look into the matter tomorrow and warn those responsible if any irregularities are found.”
