‘Nothing to be worried over Ebola virus’

Health experts here on Monday said there is no reason to get panicked about Ebola virus infection in Bangladesh.
Doctors of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU) came up with the assurance at a scientific seminar, titled ‘Menace of Ebola Virus: How Much We are Prepared?’ at Shaheed Dr Milon Hall at BSMMU in the city.
BSMMU vice chancellor Prof Pran Gopal Datta said, “We’re about the virus and we’ve adequate preparations to handle any emergency situation…there’s nothing to be worried about.”
Principal scientific officer of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) Dr M Mushtaq Hussain said Kurmitola General Hospital and the National Institute of Diseases of the Chest and Hospital (NIDCH) are ready to treat any possible Ebola infected patient.
Separate wards are also ready at upazila level hospitals across the country and they have been instructed to inform the IEDCR if any patient is diagnosed with Ebola virus, he added.
BSMMU Prof Zilon Miah Sarkar said anyone is susceptible to Ebola virus if they visit Ebola-infected places, patient, animals, and insects. Infected persons should drink oral saline frequently, he said.
