Dr Sanjida Khatun, President of Chhayanaut, died at Square Hospital at 3:10am on Tuesday. She was 92.

The Ekushey Padak-winning Rabindra Sangeet exponent was a lighthouse in the cultural arena, who not only made music but also enlightened people with it.

The veteran singer passed away due to old age complications.
In 2021, she was also honoured with the Padma Shri, considered the fourth highest civilian award in India.

Sanjida Khatun was born on April 4, 1933. Her endless contributions in upholding the spirit of liberal thinking are vividly reflected in her work and her lifelong philosophy.

Sanjida Khatun was also one of the founders of Bangladesh Mukti Sangrami Shilpi Sangstha during the Liberation War in 1971 and Chhayanaut in the early 1960s.

It was under her tutelage that Chhayanaut has grown into a world-renowned institute promoting classical music and dance.
