A 90- year- old woman died in a fire that burnt down her dwelling house early hours on Sunday last in Govindapur village under Matlab Dakshin Upazila.
She was identified as Jeora Khatun (90) wife of late Abdur Rab Chowdhury who died 10 years ago leaving her , one daughter , married off, and two sons who are working in different distant places far away from her home. She alone used to live in this tiny tin- shed house-said a resident of her home A Sattar B.Sc and asstt teacher of a local High School adding that the fire probably originated from electric short at pre- dawn and it engulfed the entire house rapidly. Despite her repeated outcries for help and save her, none dared to come to her aid due to flames all around. So she died in the flame in her house.. With tears, her eldest son Md Solaiman has said, ‘We never thought that our mother would die in fire in this way’.
On getting information, Matlab Dakhshin Fire fighters started for the spot but they were informed that the locals already doused the fire.
So they did not proceed-said the Fire station officer Mehedi Hasan adding that the old woman ‘s death in the fire was not however informed them by anybody.
