The pressure of vehicles has increased on the Dhaka-Tangail and Dhaka-Mymensingh highways as people begin their journey home for Eid-ul-Fitr. However, as of now, no major traffic congestion has been reported on these routes.
Since Friday morning (March 28), crowds of passengers and an increased flow of vehicles have been observed at various points along the highways.
According to police, passengers, and locals, many people, including garment workers and employees from various professions, have started leaving the city for their hometowns to celebrate the Eid holidays. As a result, vehicle movement on the two highways has increased. However, as of 11 AM, both highways remain free from traffic congestion.
The Chandra Mor area in Kaliakair upazila of Gazipur is a focal point during every Eid as thousands of people from northern districts gather here to board vehicles for their hometowns. Despite the four-lane expansion of the Dhaka-Tangail highway, traffic congestion is usually a concern in the days leading up to Eid. To ensure a smooth journey, additional police personnel have been deployed in the Chandra Mor area.
Since Friday morning, a large number of holiday travelers have started arriving at Chandra Mor with their families, boarding vehicles or waiting for transport. The increasing number of vehicles has put pressure on the highway, but no severe traffic jams have been reported so far.
Similarly, on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, passenger flow has increased significantly in areas such as Tongi Station Road, College Gate, Board Bazar, Chandana Chowrasta, Bhogra, Mauna Chowrasta, and Masterbari. However, despite the growing number of vehicles, traffic is moving smoothly.
Nazor Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Roiz Uddin stated that the number of vehicles at Chandra Mor on the Dhaka-Tangail highway has increased several times due to the Eid rush. While vehicle movement has slowed down in some areas, there is no major traffic congestion. He also assured that district and highway police, along with law enforcement agencies, are actively working to maintain order and ensure a hassle-free journey for commuters.
Meanwhile, Mauna Highway Police Station OC Ayub Ali confirmed that although vehicle pressure has slightly increased in the Masterbari area of the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway, it is not significant. He expressed confidence that there would be no major traffic congestion on this highway during Eid, ensuring a smooth journey for holiday travelers.
