‘No student fatalities, refrain from spreading misinformation’

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has confirmed that no students were killed in the clashes between students of Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kabi Nazrul Government College, and Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College. The DMP has urged everyone to refrain from spreading rumors about two fatalities.

DMP Deputy Police Commissioner (Media & Public Relations) Muhammad Talebur Rahman confirmed this information on Monday evening.

In addition, Founder of Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah said, “No students were killed in the clashes and chasing incidents. A group has spread false news of fatalities in an attempt to create unrest in the country.”

At least 35 students were injured in clashes between students of Dr Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College, Kabi Nazrul College, and Suhrawardy College in Matuail, Jatrabari, Dhaka. The injured were brought to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital on Monday afternoon.

The injured students include Rajib (19), Shahedul (20), Ashikul (21), Rohan (19), Samrat (18), and Joy (18) from Suhrawardy College’s HSC first year. From Kabi Nazrul Government College, the injured are Rana (20), Maruf (19), Hasinur (19), Sifat (18), Jahedul (21), Asif Mahmud (18), Sakir (19), Zubair Rahman Sajjad (19), Soikat (19), Zarif (18) from HSC first year; Arafat (19), Maruf (22) from HSC second year; Anupam Das (23), Jewel Islam (22), Naeem (22) from Hon’s first year,  Suman (22) from Hon’s second year.

Humayun (20) from Imperial College’s first year is also among the injured.

From Salimullah College Rumon (19) and Noman (20) from HSC first year, Saidul Islam (19), Anoy (21), Abdur Rahman (20) from HSC second year, Rajib (24) from Honors second year.

From Mahbubur Rahman Mollah College, Nafee (18) (gunshot wound) from HSC first year, and Intyak (22) from Honors first year.

SSC candidate from Dolai Para AK School Tasrif (18) and ninth-grade student from Donia Bright School Mahim Hossain (15) were also injured. Additionally, Arafat (19) from Rajarbagh Police Line School and College’s HSC first year is among the injured.

Police camp in charge of Dhaka Medical College Hospital Inspector Mohammad Faruk said, “At least 35 injured individuals have been brought to the emergency department from Jatrabari. Most of them are students with injuries to their heads and bodies.”
