There are no security threats or concerns of sabotage surrounding the celebration of Eid-ul-Fitr, stated Home Affairs Advisor Md. Jahangir Alam Chowdhury. He made this remark while addressing journalists after inspecting the National Eidgah ground on Sunday (March 30) afternoon.
When asked whether the empty streets of Dhaka pose any security risk or potential sabotage threats, the advisor dismissed such concerns. “Rumors remain just that—rumors. We have no security shortages, and there is no fear of sabotage. If you (journalists) receive any information, let us know, and we will address it together,” he assured.
Regarding a circulating claim that Awami League members were allegedly involved in planning sabotage during an Iftar party in Kolkata, India, he responded, “Who is in Kolkata? Criminals are there. They are always plotting such things. We will take necessary measures against criminals.”
Following his inspection of the Eidgah ground, he emphasized that around 35,000 worshippers participate in the Eid congregation at the National Eidgah. “Many esteemed personalities and dignitaries attend the prayers here. We have taken all necessary security measures to ensure their safety.”
He further informed that arrangements have been made for clean water, ablution facilities, and medical assistance for anyone who falls ill. “There is no need to bring prayer mats as carpets have been arranged for everyone,” he added.
Also present at the inspection were DMP Commissioner Sheikh Md. Sajjat Ali, DB Chief Additional Police Commissioner Rezaul Karim Mallik, and other officials.
