BNP Standing Committee Member Nazrul Islam Khan said on Friday there is no gap between the two major political party the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami saying he hoped to work together in future for reestablishing democracy in the country.
“There is nothing over remaining gap between the BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami. They are talk about democracy and people’s rights we are also. But if anyone said that they are sole patriot, we are not-this obviously hurt us,” Nazrul Islam Khan told journalists while Speaking to reporters after a meeting with a delegation of Jatiyatabadi Samamona Jote at the BNP Chairperson’s Gulshan office.
The BNP leader said, “We have no such distance with Jamaat. They (Jamaat) also want democracy and elections, and they speak of human rights, as we do.
He said, “If anyone claims that they alone are patriots, naturally, we will feel hurt. We will say, brother, that is not true. We all are patriots.”
The BNP leader expressed hope that no politician would make similar remarks in the future.
When asked about holding any meetings with Jamaat, he clarified that their party was not officially involved in a joint movement with Jamaat.
Although Jamaat, like the BNP and other parties, was part of the opposition movement against the Awami League government, their programmes were not identical, he explained.
“We hope that in the days ahead, we will all unite in the movement to restore democracy, and they (Jamaat) will also join the effort,” said Nazrul.
Responding to another question, he stated that BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was receiving appropriate medical care at the London Clinic.
“By Allah’s grace, her treatment is progressing well. We request the people of the country to pray for her quick
recovery so that she can return to us after her treatment,” the BNP leader added.
Jatiyatabadi Samamona Jote chief and National People’s Party (NPP) Chairman Dr Fariduzzaman Farhad also spoke, calling on the interim government to expedite necessary reforms and arrange elections promptly.
