Business Report :

Despite the disruption at the Chattogram port and customs during the July uprising, there will be no significant impact on revenue collection, National Board of Revenue (NBR) Chairman Md Abdur Rahman Khan said on Wednesday.

The NBR has taken several initiatives to address any potential shortfall, he told reporters following a meeting with customs officials at the Chattogram Custom House.

He also said if traders pay their due duties on time, there are no concerns about a revenue deficit.
“The issues of corruption, irregularities, and harassment that were reported at different times at the Chattogram Custom House have been addressed during operational discussions with the officials.

“Directives have been issued to ensure that traders receive the highest level of service from the Custom House. It must be transformed into a service-oriented institution, free of harassment,” said the NBR chairman.

Abdur Rahman also mentioned that NBR has been actively working to resolve the technical difficulties encountered in the ASYCUDA World software over the past two weeks.

Following the meeting with customs officials, the NBR Chairman met with Chattogram Port Authority officials at the port’s conference room at 11am on Wednesday.

Quote: “Directives have been issued to ensure that traders receive the highest level of service from the Custom House. It must be transformed into a service-oriented institution, free of harassment”.
