The government has imposed ban on public gatherings during the Pahela Baishakh celebration due to the rise of coronavirus cases in the country. Instead of public gatherings, people have been asked to celebrate the Bengali New Year online.
The instructions were given in a letter signed by the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Culture ASM Hasan Al Amin on Wednesday.
The letter said that all kinds of public meetings have been prohibited due to the ongoing coronavirus situation. At the same time, the letter stated that if possible Pahela Baishakh programs should be celebrated online rather than at public gatherings.
It is to be noted that due to the Corona situation, no Pahela Baishakh mars procession was held last time. Then various organizations organize virtual Bengali New Year celebrations.
