US-Bangla Airlines has rejected recent media reports claiming that a Nepali court has ordered the airline to pay compensation to the families of victims of its 2018 plane crash in Kathmandu.
“We have not received any official court order or documentation on this matter,” said Kamrul Islam, General Manager (Public Relations) of US-Bangla Airlines, speaking to the media.
The report, published by Nepal’s The Kathmandu Post on 22 July, stated that a district court in Kathmandu had directed the Dhaka-based carrier
to pay approximately $2.74 million (around Tk 33.5 crore) to the families of those who died in the tragic accident.
However, Kamrul Islam questioned the report’s authenticity, noting, “It remains unconfirmed whether such a verdict has actually been issued.” He added that the airline’s legal team is thoroughly reviewing the situation.
“If any verdict exists, it will be examined through proper legal channels, and we will provide updates to the media and relevant authorities in due course,” he said.
The airline also urged the public and media outlets to avoid spreading unverified information or reports lacking official court documentation.
The crash involved Flight BS211, a Bombardier Dash 8 Q400 operated by US-Bangla Airlines, which went down while attempting to land at Tribhuvan International Airport on 12 March 2018.
Of the 71 people on board, 51 lost their lives, including 28 Bangladeshis, 22 Nepalis, and one Chinese passenger.
