CoU Correspondent:
Comilla University (CoU) has decided to hold its admission tests independently, stepping away from the GST system. This decision was finalised in the 102nd Syndicate meeting on Tuesday, led by Pro-Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Masuda Kamal.
Dr. Kamal stated, “After evaluating the pros and cons of the cluster system, the Syndicate unanimously agreed to conduct separate admission tests.
Although there is pressure from the Ministry of Education to stay in the cluster system, we will discuss our decision with them.”
The debate over the cluster system began when, on December 15, 2024, CoU’s Academic Council decided on independent tests. However, on January 3, 2025, Vice Chancellor Professor Dr. Md. Haidar Ali announced the university’s participation in the cluster system, sparking student protests.
Students organized human chains, sit-ins, and issued ultimatums demanding an independent admission system. Faculty members also supported the students’ stance.
The Syndicate’s latest decision aligns with these demands, marking a significant shift for CoU.
