The investigation committee has found no evidence of individual involvement in the fire incident at the Secretariat.
Nasimul Gani, the head of the committee and senior secretary of the home affairs ministry, made these disclosures after submitting the preliminary investigation report to the chief adviser on Tuesday evening.
He said, “The fire at the secretariat originated from a loose connection. No evidence of any individual’s involvement has been found.
“No documents were burned or damaged in the incident. Additionally, the affected building will not require demolition.”
At the same time, Committee Member Brigadier General Mahbub Hasan said, “No explosives were found in the burned floors. We conducted a search with a dog squad. No explosives were found in the samples collected by the fire service either.”
During the briefing, Fire Service Director General Brigadier General Muhammad Jahed Kamal said, “The delay in extinguishing the fire was due to the fire being in the corridor. We had to cut through the collapsible gate to enter. The interior design caused the fire to spread more, and there was insufficient water.”
The fire broke out on the night of Wednesday, December 25, in Building No 7 of the Secretariat. Nineteen units of the fire service worked for six continuous hours to bring the fire under control.
