“Bangladesh Petroleum Exploration and Production Company (BAPEX) was kept idle, but there are now efforts to extract gas from Bhola,” he said while addressing reporters during a visit to the Ghorashal Polash Urea Fertilizer Factory in Narsingdi on Saturday afternoon.

Adilur Rahman also discussed these issues with journalists following a two-hour meeting with senior officials of the Ministry of Industries at the Secretariat.

The Adviser highlighted the ongoing gas crisis in the country and its impact on fertilizer production. “Fertilizer production will increase in the future once the gas crisis is resolved. Efforts are being made to mitigate the current fertilizer shortage in the country, although numerous obstacles remain in achieving this goal,” he said.

He also pointed out widespread corruption in various sectors over the past 15 and a half years. “Efforts are underway to address and eliminate corruption,” he added.

“The problems in fertilizer production will be addressed to reduce import dependency, which would significantly save foreign currency,” he said.

Adilur Rahman Khan noted that various institutions under the Ministry of Industries are currently operating at a loss, and proper measures will be taken to identify the issues and make these institutions profitable.

“There is no choice but to be stringent against corruption. We have taken on this responsibility through much sacrifice. There is no question of allowing new corruption to occur,” he said.

The Adviser also emphasized the importance of ensuring a steady gas supply to maintain normal production in industries.

Additionally, he mentioned plans to improve the leather industry in Savar while ensuring environmental compliance in the ship-breaking industry.
