No extortionist will be spared: Home Adviser
Staff Reporter :
No extortionist will be spared, said Home Adviser Lieutenant General Md Jahangir Alam Chowdhury (Retd.)
He said, “We didn’t let the extortionist in Gulshan walk free. No one will be spared, no matter how powerful or influential they are, or what identity they claim. No extortionist will be given immunity,” he told reporters at the Secretariat on monday afternoon following a meeting of the Law and Order Core Committee.
The Home Adviser also expressed his resentment over the failure of capturing the godfathers of drug trafficking.
“Carriers of drug trafficking are being held. But, the godfathers escape the arrests. Some of our agencies are liable for it,” he said.
In the meeting, Jahangir said they stressed the need for finding way outs to put an end to the menace which reaches every nook and corner in the society.
Jahangir said the crackdown was part of a broader combing operation against extortion and criminal networks.
Turning to other law and order issues, the adviser said the government has intensified its efforts to curb the spread of narcotics, which he described as having deeply penetrated society.
“Drugs have spread into every corner of our society. We’re now focusing on how to stop this,” he said.
