India’s Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi has affirmed that military relations between India and Bangladesh remain as strong as ever. He said there has been no sign of hostility from either side, even during times of political shifts in Bangladesh.

“Continuous communication, including video conferences, ensured seamless coordination between the two armies, maintaining the same level of collaboration in defense matters as before,” he added

In response to questions from Indian journalists regarding Bangladesh on Monday, the Indian army chief highlighted the recent remarks made by Bangladesh’s Army Chief General Waker-uz-Zaman where the Bangladesh army chief acknowledged India as strategically important.

The Indian army chief said, “The sentiment is mutual. Similarly, Bangladesh is strategically important for us (India).

“We are neighbours. We must live together. It is important to understand that displaying hostility will not benefit the interests of either side,” he added.

The Indian army chief further mentioned that since the interim government, led by Muhammad Yunus, took charge, there have been no hostile actions taken by either party.

General Upendra Dwivedi also said the joint military exercises, which were previously conducted, have been temporarily suspended due to the current situation. He assured that the joint exercises will resume once the situation improves.
