Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, a member of the Standing Committee of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), emphasised that national unity is essential for the interim government to complete its tasks effectively.

He asserted that without national unity, there is no viable alternative.
Speaking at a discussion meeting titled ‘One Month of Interim Government’ organised by the AB Party at Dhaka Reporters Unity on Sunday, September 8, Khosru expressed that only through consensus can the forces that have politically, economically, and socially undermined the country be overcome.

Khosru stated, “Everyone can claim that Bangladesh is theirs now. Times have changed.

The sacrifices made by those who lost their lives, became disabled, went missing, or were displaced must be recognised. The student movement has ultimately succeeded.”

He highlighted the importance of understanding the people’s thoughts, expectations, and desires, noting that politicians must be in tune with these to progress in future political contexts.

“Those who do not grasp this will struggle to advance in the evolving political landscape. I am willing to cooperate with the interim government,” Khosru added.

He further remarked that the people have reclaimed control of the country that was previously dominated by Sheikh Hasina and her family.

He stressed that the direction of Bangladesh’s governance will now be determined by the people, and politicians must engage with them to communicate their plans and proposed changes.

Khosru also stated that he had a conversation with Mahmudur Rahman Manna of Nagorik Oikya and said that he was doing much better than what he felt a month and three days ago, as he was imprisoned at that time.

“We have endured suffering for the past 17 years. Today, we have a free country and a free environment.

This freedom must be preserved. The escape of Sheikh Hasina has led to a shift in people’s attitudes,” he concluded.
