A departmental workshop on Typhoid Vaccination Campaign-2025 organised by the National Media Institute (NIMCO) with the participation of media workers working in Khulna was held at the conference room of the Khulna District Commissioner on Monday.
The inaugural session of the workshop was presided over by the Director General (Additional Secretary) of the National Media Institute, Muhammad Hiruzzaman.
In his presidential speech, the Director General said that a large-scale campaign is underway to protect children from typhoid fever by administering Typhoid Conjugate Vaccine (TCV) to about five crore children in the country.
To make this vaccination campaign successful, there is a great need to increase awareness among the general public about the importance of vaccination.
The media can play a special role in shaping public opinion and increasing public awareness.
The general public believes the news published in the mainstream media with great importance. Because, these media always act as the conscience of the nation.
He said that media workers can play a role in making parents aware of vaccination and bringing any limitations observed in the vaccination process to the attention of the appropriate authorities through the media.
At the same time, there is an opportunity to make the public aware through various programs and talk shows on electronic media.
He further said that the typhoid vaccine campaign is expected to play a helpful role in building a healthy nation and a developed Bangladesh in the future.
Media workers can remove the blind faith in the minds of the public about vaccination through their positive writings.
In his speech as the chief guest at the event, Additional Divisional Commissioner (General) Md. Hussain Shawkat said that Bangladesh’s EPI program has been praised worldwide for the past few decades.
It is expected that the ongoing vaccination campaign will also be successful.
There is an opportunity for mainstream media workers to play a special role in countering false information spread on social media about typhoid vaccination.
The workshop was addressed as special guests by Deputy Commissioner Md. Taufiqur Rahman, Divisional Director (Acting) of the Health Department Dr. Md. Mujibur Rahman and UNICEF Khulna Chief Md. Kausar Hossain.
The welcome speech was delivered by NIMCO Director (Training Engineering) Parveen Sultana Rabbi and the keynote address was presented by UNICEF National UPI Consultant Dr. Taposh Kumar Halder.
Civil Surgeon Dr. Md. Mahfuza Khatun, Deputy Chief Information Officer of Khulna Regional Information Office ASM Kabir, Press Club Convener Enamul Haque, Member Secretary Rafiul Islam Tutul, Senior Journalist Sheikh Didarul Alam and others were present.
60 local media personnel, including officials from various departments under the Ministry of Information, participated in the workshop.
