In the biennial election of Nilphamari District Bar Association, Jamaat-backed Al Faruq Abdul Latif and BNP-backed Al Masud Chowdhury have been elected as President and General Secretary, respectively. The results were announced at around 9:30 pm after voting in the meeting room of the District Bar Association on Thursday (January 30).
Al Faruq Abdul Latif got 98 votes for the post of President. He is the Deputy Secretary of the District Jamaat. His nearest rival Abu Md. Soem got 83 votes. He is the GP of the District Judge Court and the Joint General Secretary of the District BNP. Among the three candidates for this post, another candidate Abdul Latif Sarkar got 31 votes.
Al Masud Chowdhury was elected as the General Secretary with 115 votes. He is the PP of the District Judge Court and the General Secretary of the Municipal BNP. His nearest rival is Awami League-backed Md. Kamruzzaman Shasn got 66 votes.
Vice-President Abul Kalam Azad supported by Awami League was elected with 111 votes. His nearest rival Ashraful Latif Kibria supported by BNP got 81 votes. Hasnan Imam Sohel supported by BNP got 130 votes and was elected as Joint General Secretary. His nearest rival Santosh Kumar Biswas got 79 votes.
Deputy General Secretary Golam Mustafa Sajeeb supported by BNP got 122 votes. His nearest rival Md. Selim Shah got 91 votes (supported by A.League). Asaduzzaman Khan Rino supported by BNP got 109 votes and was elected as Treasurer. His nearest rival Faruk Hossain Sarkar got 105 votes (supported by A.League).
Library Secretary Anisur Rahman Azad supported by Jamaat got 126 votes. His nearest rival Alpana Rani Roy Rekha got 84 votes (supported by A.League).
