Niaz places 17th in Open Chess Championships

Grandmaster Niaz Murshed of Dhaka Mohamedan became 17th in the DYTM Raja Dr Nazrin Shah KL International Open Chess Championships held at Olympic Sports Hotel in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia on Friday.
Niaz secured 5.5 points after 9th round matches to be 17th in the meet and FM Mohammad Fahad Rahman of Gopalganj Chess Club finished 66th with 3.5 points.
Although did not take part after the 5th round, Md Anisuzzaman Jewel became 82nd bagging 2 points from 5 matches.
In the 9th and last round matches Niaz lost to FM Pascua Harisas of Philippines and Fahad conceded defeat against Yeon Li Tian of Malaysia.
In all, 88 players, including 12 grandmasters, 5 women grandmasters and 13 International Masters, from 19 different countries took part in this event.
