A teenager in Rupganj, Narayanganj, staged a fake robbery at his own house with two friends to get money for buying a mobile phone and a Free Fire gaming ID. Police have arrested three teens and recovered cash and gold ornaments. The arrested boys are Shahriar, an eighth grader and son of Abdur Rashid; Nabil, a ninth grader and son of Hanif Mia; and Shah Alam, a sixth grader and son of Ali Hossain. All three study at Kanchan Bharat Chandra High School. Police sent them to court on Saturday (6 November). They were arrested Friday night, and during questioning police uncovered the surprising details. According to Rupganj Police Station Officer-in-Charge Tariqul Islam, on 24 November in broad daylight, unidentified assailants allegedly tied up Shahriar, beat him, broke open an almirah in Rashid’s house in Kanchan, and escaped with 1 million taka in cash and 10 bhori of gold. Rashid filed a robbery case at Rupganj Police Station. But on Friday night, when Shah Alam bought a new phone, his family questioned him about the source of the money. Local residents found out and detained Shahriar, Nabil, and Shah Alam, and after some rough treatment the boys confessed to staging the robbery. Police recovered 278,000 taka and 2 bhori of gold from them.
