A tragic fire broke out in a private car at a CNG filling station in Rupganj, Narayanganj, resulting in the death of a three-year-old child named Jihan. The incident occurred on Friday afternoon at the Rongdhonu CNG Pump in the Karnogop area. Jihan was the son of Sharif Mia from Noyanagar, Ruposhi, in Rupganj.
According to eyewitnesses, while on the way from Ruposhi in Rupganj to Saheprotap in Narsingdi, the private car stopped at the Rongdhonu CNG Pump along the Dhaka-Sylhet highway in the Karnogop area for refueling. During this process, a gas leakage from the nozzle pipe caused the car’s engine to catch fire. The entire car was quickly engulfed in flames, reducing it to ashes. Tragically, Jihan, who was inside the car, died on the spot.
The victim’s family reported that Sharif Mia, along with his wife, son Jihan, and three others, had started their journey from Rupganj to visit relatives in Narsingdi. They stopped at the Rongdhonu filling station to refuel the car. While Jihan remained inside the car, the others stepped out. During refueling, a leakage from the cylinder’s pipe caused the fire, which quickly spread throughout the vehicle, leaving Jihan no chance to escape. Jihan’s family accused the CNG station staff of negligence, claiming that the fire could have been avoided had they acted promptly. In frustration and grief, the family later vandalized the station, causing its staff to flee. Sharif Mia, Jihan’s father, stated that he had informed the station staff about the gas leakage during refueling, but they ignored the issue, which ultimately led to the tragic loss of his child. He urged authorities to investigate the matter thoroughly and ensure justice by holding the responsible individuals accountable.
