N’ganj DC provides financial aid to fire affected traders

Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah has provided financial assistance of tk 25 thousend (amounting to a total of Tk 6 lakh 25 thousend) to each 25 traders affected by the recent fire at the City Hawkers Market in Chashara, the heart of Narayanganj city. On Wednesday (July 23) afternoon, he handed over the cheques personally, with the funds coming from the District Council’s relief fund.

Present at the event were Narayanganj Metropolitan BNP Convener Advocate Sakhawat Hossain Khan, Member Secretary Advocate Abu Al Yusuf Khan Tipu, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Central Working Committee Member Maulana Mainuddin Ahmad, Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Alomgir Hossain, District Social Welfare Officer Asaduzzaman Sardar, along with the affected traders.

During the event, the DC expressed deep sorrow and sympathy over the recent tragic plane crash that claimed the lives of innocent children. He urged everyone to be honest, humane, and conscious in their personal lives, emphasizing that negligence had led to the fire.

He also encouraged the traders to conduct their businesses with integrity, avoid counterfeit and adulterated goods, and uphold human values.

The DC expressed hope that today’s financial support would help the affected individuals recover and get back on their feet. He further stated that he would make sincere efforts to ensure further support possibly in the form of low-interest bank loans if opportunities arise in the future.

Earlier, the Deputy Commissioner had also provided medical aid of Tk 10 Thousend each to 10 individual totalling Tk 1 lakh sourced from the National Social Welfare Council.

It is worth noting that on the early morning of July 18 (Friday), a devastating fire broke out at Narayanganj’s Hawkers Market around 6 AM. The fire completely destroyed at least 30 shops, including those selling garments, shoes, confectionery, and batteries. At least five individuals were injured while trying to extinguish the blaze.
