N’ganj DC launches ‘Green and Clean’ campaign

Staff Correspondent :

To make Narayanganj a cleaner and healthier city, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mohammad Zahidul Islam Mia has launched a new initiative under the “Green and Clean Narayanganj” campaign. The widely discussed campaign aims to ensure long-term sustainability and permanence in waste management and urban cleanliness.

On Monday (August 25), he inaugurated the program by installing 100 new dustbins at Fatullah Market. The central slogan of the drive is: “Narayanganj is our home – let’s be conscious, let’s keep it clean.”

DC Zahidul further said that under the “Green and Clean Narayanganj” initiative, the dustbins were placed in Fatullah Union to improve waste management and reduce waterlogging. Plans are underway to install similar 100 dustbins in areas outside the city corporation’s jurisdiction.
“We want to keep this city clean at any cost. We appeal to every citizen—if we want to save this city, we must keep it clean. We are here to support you, but as citizens, everyone must take responsibility,” he added.

The Deputy Commissioner also mentioned that during canal excavation, about 3,500 truckloads of waste were removed, but later some people started dumping garbage into the canals again. To raise awareness, leaflets have been distributed and signboards have been installed. Additionally, two dustbins are being placed in every ward outside the city corporation. Waste collection committees have been formed in each union, and the activities of collectors are being closely monitored.

The event was chaired by Narayanganj Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Taslima Shirin. Among others present were Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Mohammad Alomgir Hossain, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Fatullah Revenue Circle Mohammad Asaduzzaman Nur, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Sadar Upazila Sadia Akter, Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Siddhirganj Revenue Circle Debjani Kor, Director of Narayanganj Chamber of Commerce and Industries Riyad Mohammad Chowdhury, along with officials, leaders, and activists from different sectors.
