Next polls to be toughest Says Tarique

The upcoming national election would be one of the toughest tests in the history of the country, said acting chairperson of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Tarique Rahman.

He came up with the remarks from London on Friday while addressing a virtual view exchange meeting with party leaders and activists from the districts under Rajshahi division.

Addressing the party’s grassroots leaders and activists, the BNP top leader said that the next election would not be an ordinary poll, but will be a tough test.

“We have always depended on public support for poll results. So, the BNP must continue to maintain the trust of the people as like the previous 17 years,” he said.

The BNP leader said that his party leaders and activists endured oppressions and tortures in the past 17 years, but the party had maintained people’s trust.

He urged the party men to refrain from any activities that might destroy people’s trust on them.

“The grassroots leaders and activists have to remain united and, above all, ask questions to gain people’s trust through connecting with them,” he said.

Earlier on Thursday, Tarique Rahman as the first such virtual meeting addressed his party men in Rangpur division.

At In the first meeting, he warned that some miscreants were trying to destabilise the country by defaming the BNP, but there was no room for any miscreants in the party.

He also directed the party people to work together to maintain the country’s stability and harmony.
