SBCCI hold 12th AGM: The 12th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Switzerland-Bangladesh Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SBCCI) was held recently. Engr. Abdur Rashid presided over the AGM while Reto Renggli, ambassador of Switzerland to Bangladesh was chief guest in the event. Vice President of SBCCI Vidiya Amrit Khan (Executive Director- Tutelar Oil Services Co. Pvt Ltd) commenced the AGM with her welcome speech, where she stated that SBCCI has led the way in supporting Swiss businesses doing business in Bangladesh ever since its founding. Dr. Tarun Patwary, FCILT, country manager of Kuehne+Nagel Bangladesh, presented the treasury report of SBCCI. SBCCI Secretary General Saad Omar Fahim (Director of Clarichem Bangladesh) presented the organization’s key activities of 2022 in the AGM. According to Engineer Abdur Rashid, president of SBCCI and Country Manager of SGS Bangladesh, FDI from Swiss Companies has doubled with $77.28 million in 2022 which was $37.80 million in 2021. He requested that everyone work together to accelerate the growth of bilateral trade between Bangladesh and Switzerland. Reto Renggli, the ambassador, commended the SBCCI’s initiatives in his remarks. He emphasized expanding commercial activities more between Bangladesh and Switzerland to increase the volume of bilateral trade. Among others, the rest of the EC members who were present were Debabrata Roy Chowdhury, Julian A. Weber, Iqbal Chowdhury, Mohammad Hedayet Ullah, Marke Heeb, and Sontosh Chandra Nath.

Ashim Kumar Saha, Head of Treasury & SEVP of Mercantile Bank PLC and Khairul Bashar Abu Taher Mohammed, Chief Regulatory Officer of Dhaka Stock Exchange Limited, signed the “Debut Trading and Ring the Bell” & “Signing of Listing Agreement” of Perpetual Bond of Tk.50.00 crore (Public Offer Portion) held at Training Academy of DSE at DSE Tower in the capital on Tuesday. Md. Quamrul Islam Chowdhury, Managing Director & CEO, Faruque Ahmed, Head of Nikunja Branch, Mohammad Tarek Parvez Khan, FVP of Mercantile Bank PLC and AGM Sattique Ahmed Shah, Chief Financial Officer, Md. Rabiul Islam, AGM of DSE along with other officials of respective organizations were present.

Southeast Bank PLC, recently has been awarded the Global Treasury Management (Commercial Payments) Special Recognition Award by Wells Fargo Bank N.A. for its excellence in managing commercial payments. Nuruddin Md. Sadeque Hossain, Managing Director of the bank received the award from Adi Kaushik, Managing Director, Portfolio Management & Loan Syndications & Corporate and Investment Banking, APAC on behalf of the bank. Other senior officials from both sides were present.

Chinese firm to invest $28.2 million in Uttara EPZ: Chinese company United Spinning & Dyeing Ltd is going to invest $28.2 million to set up a dyed textile yarn manufacturing industry at Uttara Export Processing Zone in Nilphamari. Yu Min, director of United Spinning & Dyeing Ltd Managing, said it is their first project in EPZ and they have a plan to invest more. He hoped that the company would come into production within next October. The company will produce annually 12,000 tonnes of dyed textile yarn and generate at least 1,816 job opportunities for Bangladeshis, according to a press release. To this effect, Bangladesh Export Processing Zones Authority (Bepza) signed an agreement with the company at Bepza Complex in Dhaka on Monday. Bepza Investment Promotion Member Ali Reza Mazid and United Spinning & Dyeing Ltd Managing Director Yu Min signed the agreement in the presence of Bepza Executive Chairman Major General Abul Kalam Mohammad Ziaur Rahman.

Md. Habibur Rahman Gazi, Managing Director & CEO of BDBL and Md. Salahuddin Chodhury, Executive Director of Gazi Communications, were present.
