Jubo Dal leader murdered, 7 held
Police have claimed to solve the murder of Saker Hossain, a joint convener of Magura municipal Jubo Dal, uncovering a link between his killing and a dispute over the division of 150 looted gold bars.
Seven people have been arrested in connection with the gold robbery, while six, including the alleged mastermind, have been arrested in the murder case, Magura police said on Wednesday.
At a press conference at Magura Police Lines, Superintendent of Police Mollah Azad Hossain said a group of 12 to 15 people, posing as police personnel, looted 150 gold bars worth an estimated Tk29 lakh and Tk60,000 in cash from a passenger transport vehicle in the Ramnagar area of Magura Sadar on October 6.
Following the robbery, a dispute reportedly developed between Maruf and Saker over the division of the stolen gold. Maruf allegedly planned Saker’s murder as part of the dispute.
Saker, 36, was shot dead while working at the Royal Paribahan counter at Magura municipal bus terminal around 5:30am on October 21.
Police have so far recovered five full gold bars and one broken gold bar, along with two motorcycles and a private car, in connection with the robbery.
The police superintendent said the shooter had also been identified and would be arrested soon.
Earlier, Saker’s wife, Sharminnahar Ruma, filed a murder and firearms case with Magura Sadar Police Station on October 21.
Saker was the son of the late Qutub Uddin of Parnanduali village in Magura Sadar.
