3 fined for selling jelly-mixed shrimp in Bhairab

A mobile court has fined three fish sellers a total of Tk 60,000 for selling shrimp mixed with harmful jelly in Bhairab port town of Kishoreganj.

The raid was conducted at an evening fish market in the Pultakanda area of Bhairab port town on Wednesday.

According to mobile court sources, a team led by Executive Magistrate and Assistant Commissioner (Land) of Bhairab AHM Azimul Haque conducted the raid at the fish market.

During the raid, 25kg of shrimp mixed with jelly was seized from Dolphin Fish Shop. Shop owner Farhad Mia was fined Tk 30,000 for selling the adulterated shrimp.

Antar Fish Enterprise owner Antar Barman was fined Tk 20,000 for the same offence. During the operation, 35kg of shrimp mixed with jelly was seized from his establishment.

In addition, 10kg of shrimp mixed with jelly was seized from Bismillah Fish Shop.
Shop owner Selim Mia was fined Tk 10,000.

Bhairab Upazila Fisheries Officer Md Sarwar Hossain was present during the operation.
In this regard, AHM Azimul Haque, executive magistrate and assistant commissioner (land), said 70kg of shrimp mixed with harmful jelly was seized from the three establishments during the raid.

A total fine of Tk 60,000 was collected from the three establishments for selling the adulterated shrimp.
After the raid, the seized shrimp mixed with jelly was destroyed by burying it in the ground.
