Tuku pushes solar power at govt fish farms

State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock Sultan Salahuddin Tuku has called for modernising government fish farms and expanding the use of technology to increase fish production while maintaining quality.

He made the call on Friday while inspecting the government fish seed production farm at Atpukurpar in Tangail Sadar upazila. Tuku said the production capacity of government fish farms needed to be increased to further develop the country’s fisheries sector.

He said fish seed production could be raised through improved management, modern technology and proper maintenance of existing infrastructure, stressing coordinated efforts by officials concerned.

Alongside increasing production, he said, environmental balance and electricity conservation must receive due importance.

The state minister called for wider use of environment-friendly technologies, including solar power, at government fish farms to make production activities more sustainable.

During the inspection, he inaugurated a 20-kilowatt solar power system at the farm. He later planted trees on the farm premises.

Director of the Department of Fisheries, Dhaka Division, Md Ahsan Hasib Khan; Project Director of the Infrastructure Development Project for Increasing Fish Production in Existing Government Fish Farms, Md Mashiur Rahman; District Fisheries Officer Mohammad Shahjahan Kabir; Tangail Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Shaheen Mia; Senior Joint Secretary Azim Uddin Biplob; and officials of the Department of Fisheries at various levels were present.
