Scouts launch cleanliness drive in Mymensingh
A cleanliness campaign was held in Mymensingh on Thursday with the slogan, “Wherever I Am, There Is Cleanliness.”
The programme was organised jointly by Bangladesh Scouts and the Mymensingh Sadar Upazila administration at 10:00am.
Mymensingh Deputy Commissioner and President of the Bangladesh Scouts, Mymensingh District, Md Saifur Rahman attended the programme as the chief guest.
Deputy Commissioner said Scouts are always prepared to serve the country whenever needed. Building a clean Mymensingh is not the responsibility of the administration or any particular institution alone; rather, it is the responsibility of every citizen.
“Just as we keep our own homes clean, we should consider the country our home and keep it clean,” he said.
He also said that polythene is harmful to the environment and called upon people to play a responsible role in building a polythene-free country.
The campaign began at the District Scout Bhaban under the chairmanship of Mymensingh Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Md Ariful Islam. It later covered areas including HSTTI, Government Laboratory High School and Government Teachers’ Training College.
Members of Bangladesh Scouts, teachers, students from different educational institutions and other concerned people took part in the programme.
During the campaign, participants collected and removed garbage and discarded plastic from roads and surrounding areas. Awareness activities were also conducted to encourage people not to litter and to protect the environment.
The organisers said cleanliness should not be limited to a one-day programme but should become a regular habit in both personal and social life. Citizens were urged to play a responsible role from their respective positions in maintaining a clean environment.
