KUET teachers hold human chain protesting attack on professor

Teachers of Khulna University of Engineering & Technology (KUET) formed a human chain on Thursday to protest the assault on Prof Dr Md Rafiqul Islam of the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering.

The protest was held at 4pm at the foot of Durbar Bangla on the university campus, organised by the KUET Teachers’ Association. Teachers from different departments took part in the programme and strongly condemned the attack.

The programme was moderated by Prof Dr Mohammad Elias Enam, general secretary of the Teachers’ Association.

Among others, Prof Dr M M A Hashem, senior professor of the Department of Computer Science and Engineering, Prof Dr Raziya Khatun of the Department of Humanities, and Prof Dr Md Faruk Hossain, president of the Teachers’ Association, spoke at the event.

The speakers said the attack on a university teacher was highly condemnable and alarming. They demanded that those involved in the attack be identified as soon as possible, brought to justice and given exemplary punishment.

They also urged the authorities concerned to ensure the safety and security of KUET teachers, officers, employees and students.

A large number of teachers from different departments of the university were present at the human chain.
