Woman dies after fall from DMCH building

A 20-year-old woman died after reportedly jumping from the seventh floor of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) early Friday while undergoing treatment at the facility.

The deceased was identified as Riya, a homemaker from Bhadurdangi village under Chartarapur union in Pabna Sadar upazila.

According to her family, she had been admitted to Ward No. 802 of the hospital’s new building for the past five days with various health complications.

Her father, Latif Mallik, said Riya fell from the building in the early hours. She was immediately taken to the hospital’s emergency department, where doctors pronounced her dead at around 5:15am.

Latif said his daughter had been experiencing mental health problems for about 10 days and had been behaving unusually. She was also receiving treatment for mouth sores and other medical complications.

He added that Riya married a Bangladeshi expatriate living in Singapore after completing her Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examination and had been distressed over not being able to have a child since her marriage.

Inspector Md Faruk, in-charge of the DMCH police camp, said the body has been kept at the hospital morgue for an autopsy.
