Khulna APBn leads green transformation

An environmental transformation is taking shape at the headquarters of the 3rd Armed Police Battalion (APBn) in Shiromoni, Khulna, where a series of green and community-focused initiatives are turning the police campus into a model of sustainability.

Spearheaded by the battalion’s Commanding Officer, Additional DIG M.M. Salahuddin, the once-conventional police compound now features sunflower fields, mango and lychee orchards, flower gardens, and a honey cultivation project named “Madhukunja,” where bees are reared in specially designed hives.

During a visit to the campus on Thursday, The New Nation correspondent found the 3rd APBn headquarters transformed into a lush and vibrant green space.

The campus also houses “Ankur Nursery,” a public nursery offering a wide variety of saplings, encouraging tree planting and environmental awareness among local residents.

Expanding its eco-friendly initiatives, the battalion has established a fish hatchery named “Renuka” by excavating a water body. The hatchery produces different species of fish, contributing to both environmental conservation and local food production.

In a recent drive to promote a cleaner environment and help prevent dengue, the 3rd APBN, in collaboration with local residents, organised a large-scale cleanliness campaign.

The programme was led by Additional DIG M.M. Salahuddin and attended by officers and members of the battalion, local elected representatives and prominent community members.

With logistical support from the Khulna City Corporation, police personnel and residents jointly cleaned public spaces in and around the area.

Speaking on the occasion, Salahuddin said a healthy, beautiful and liveable city could only be achieved through collective efforts to keep neighbourhoods free from waste and pollution. He also called on residents to continue supporting such initiatives.
