Joypurhat Press Club gets new body

Abubakar Siddique and Shamim Kadir were elected President and General Secretary of the Joypurhat Press Club Executive Committee for the 2026-2028 terms in the biennial election held on Wednesday.
According to the official results, Abubakar Siddique secured 29 votes to defeat his nearest rival, Mashrekul Alam, who received 18 votes in the presidential race. In the contest for General Secretary, Shamim Kadir won with 34 votes, while his opponent, Moazzem Hossain, secured 16 votes.

Among the other elected office-bearers, Sohel Ahmed Leo (24 votes) and Tanvirul Islam Regan (22 votes) were elected Vice-Presidents.

Abu Musa (21 votes) was elected Assistant General Secretary, Ismail Hossain (35 votes) Treasurer, Zahidul Islam (26 votes) Library Secretary, Milon Raihan (26 votes) Office Secretary, Moannaf Hossain Shimul (30 votes) Publicity and Publications Secretary, and Sheetal Chandra (26 votes) Sports and Cultural Secretary.

Ataur Rahman (31 votes), Pulak Sarkar (28 votes), and Ruhul Amin (28 votes) were elected Executive Members of the committee.

The election results were announced in a statement signed by Chief Election Commissioner Nazrul Islam and Election Commissioners Advocate Arafat Hossain Mun and Sujan Kumar Mondal.
