Handmade products displayed at CoU fair
Students of the 2022-23 academic session of the Marketing Department at Comilla University (CoU) organised a “Founders Fiesta”, an entrepreneurship fair, on Monday as part of their Entrepreneur Development course, providing a platform to transform theoretical business knowledge into practical experience.
The fair was inaugurated around 11:00am by Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr M M Shariful Karim, who later visited the stalls and encouraged students to pursue entrepreneurship.
CoU Treasurer Prof Dr Mohammad Solaiman, Marketing Department Chair Prof Dr Meher Nigar, faculty members and students were also present at the event.
Organised as a course requirement, the fair featured five student-run stalls showcasing a range of products, including handmade clay items, food, jewellery and cosmetics. According to the organisers, the fair continued until 4:00pm.
Md Touhidur Rahman Sakib, a student of the 2022-23 batch, said the event was designed to demonstrate how knowledge gained in the Entrepreneur Development course could be applied in real-life business settings.
“As BBA students and future marketers, this fair has given us an opportunity to turn theoretical learning into practical experience,” he said, thanking his classmates and course instructor Bipasha for their support.
Another student, Tahmid Tajwar, said their stall primarily featured handcrafted products, including homemade scented candles, solid perfumes made from natural flowers and a variety of food items.
“Our goal is to develop ourselves as entrepreneurs through this initiative,” he said.
Speaking after visiting the fair, Treasurer Prof Dr Mohammad Solaiman said business graduates should aspire not only to seek jobs but also to create employment opportunities.
“This kind of initiative encourages students to think innovatively. They have demonstrated teamwork here, but they should also develop the confidence to pursue individual entrepreneurial ventures,” he said.
Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr M M Shariful Karim praised the initiative, saying it would inspire students to innovate and contribute to the country’s economy.
