Future BD is looking at you
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has called on children to develop their abilities through education, discipline and sports, saying the future of Bangladesh depends on how strongly the younger generation prepares itself.
Speaking at the closing ceremony of Notun Kuri Sports 2025-26 at the Bangladesh Army Stadium on Monday, the Prime Minister said children must build themselves properly as they will ultimately shoulder the responsibility of taking the country forward.
“You have to build yourselves properly.
The future of Bangladesh is looking at you. Bangladesh is looking at you. If you can develop yourselves, we will be able to build a beautiful Bangladesh,” Tarique Rahman told thousands of schoolchildren attending the event.
He said the government could create opportunities for young people, but the responsibility of advancing Bangladesh in the future would belong to the new generation.
“We may have only begun this journey, but it is you who will have to take the task of building Bangladesh forward,” he said.
The Prime Minister said tomorrow’s doctors, engineers, architects, scientists, athletes and national leaders would emerge from among today’s children.
“Never think of yourselves as small or insignificant. The stronger you build yourselves, the better you will be able to build Bangladesh,” he added.
He encouraged children to remain equally focused on academic studies and sports, saying excellence in both areas was necessary for overall development.
Tarique Rahman also urged children across the country, including those watching the programme on television and online, to contribute to keeping Bangladesh clean.
He said Bangladesh belongs to everyone and protecting the environment would help create a healthier atmosphere where children could grow, study and thrive.
The Prime Minister asked children to avoid littering, dispose of waste properly, protect rivers and ponds from pollution and plant at least one tree every year.
He also urged them to show kindness towards animals and protect birds and wildlife as important parts of the country’s natural heritage.
“If you see anyone throwing waste into rivers, ponds or public places, stop them. If possible, clean it yourselves. This country belongs to all of us and we must keep it clean,” he said.
The Prime Minister assured children that the government would continue creating opportunities for those interested in education, music, arts and sports.
“The government will do its best to support you, whether you want to study, sing, paint or play sports,” he said. Congratulating the winners of the competition, Tarique Rahman thanked parents, teachers and coaches for their efforts in nurturing young talent.
He expressed hope that these young athletes would one day bring international recognition to Bangladesh by winning trophies on the global stage.
Before delivering his speech, the Prime Minister urged journalists and editors to give greater coverage to the achievements of children participating in Notun Kuri Sports 2025-26, describing them as the country’s future and greatest hope.
He requested print and electronic media editors to make the event a lead story.
Tarique Rahman said Bangladesh faces many challenges, but the achievements and potential of children deserve equal attention.
Earlier, the Prime Minister watched the finals of boys’ and girls’ football and the boys’ and girls’ 100-metre sprint before distributing trophies and prizes among the winners.
State Minister for Youth and Sports Aminul Haque and Youth and Sports Secretary Md Mahbub-Ul-Alam also addressed the programme.
Finance Minister Amir Khosru Mahmud Chowdhury, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed and Social Welfare and Women and Children Affairs Minister Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, among others, were present.
The Notun Kuri Sports 2025-26 initiative aims to encourage young students to participate in sports and develop their skills alongside academic activities.
