Tree plantation drive starts in Madaripur

Keeping in mind the slogan “Beautify the country with tree plantation, Bangladesh comes first”, a week-long tree plantation drive and tree fair were inaugurated in Madaripur.

Jahandar Ali Jahan, MP from Madaripur-2 constituency, inaugurated the programme organised by the district administration and forest department on the Mukta Mancha premises of Shakuni Lekpar in the district town on Friday.

Deputy Commissioner of Madaripur Ms. Marzina Akter presided over the inaugural function, while Additional Police Super Bimal Chandra Barman, Divisional Forest Officer of Faridpur Social Forest Department Md. Tariqul Islam, Civil Surgeon Dr. Mohammad Shariful Abedin Kamal and Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Extension Dr. Rahima Khatun, Officer-in-Charge of Madaripur Forest Department Jahangir Alam and others spoke on the occasion.

In his speech as the chief guest, MP Jahandar Ali Jahan said that everyone should work together to implement the ongoing program of planting 250 million trees in five years across the country under the direction of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.

He said that tree plantation activities should be taken forward through nationwide coordination and along with planting trees, their conservation should also be ensured. He called for working together by identifying the areas in Madaripur where there is a shortage of trees and formulating policies.
