Automatic traffic lights at capital’s 50 points

Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has ordered the launch of automatic traffic lights at 50 points in the capital.

At the same time, he has also ordered controlling brick-kiln pollution, stopping excessive horn use, and quickly removing unfit vehicles from the roads to reduce air and noise pollution.

He gave these directives at a meeting on environmental pollution at the Prime Minister’s Office in Tejgaon, in the capital, on Saturday.

The Prime Minister’s Press Wing said that the meeting held detailed discussions on various initiatives to prevent air and noise pollution.

In particular, it was decided to take quick and effective measures to reduce air pollution caused by brick kilns. At this time, the Prime Minister emphasized using environment-friendly alternative technology for brick production.

The meeting also discussed controlling excessive vehicle horn use in the capital. In this regard, the Prime Minister directed law enforcement agencies to play a stricter role.

The meeting also discussed how technology such as the AI-based cameras used in traffic management could be used to control horn use.

The Prime Minister also emphasized taking effective initiatives to quickly remove unfit, expired, and pollution-causing buses, trucks, and other vehicles from the capital’s roads. Alongside this, he ordered the swift launch of automatic traffic light systems at at least 50 more locations in the capital.

Those present at the meeting included Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Abdul Awal Mintoo, State Minister Sheikh Faridul Islam, State Minister for Water Resources Farhad Hossain Azad, the Prime Minister’s Special Assistant for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Dr. Saimum Parvez, Dhaka South City Corporation Administrator Md. Abdus Salam, Dhaka North City Corporation Administrator Md. Shafiqul Islam Khan, Dhaka Metropolitan Police Commissioner Mosleh Uddin Ahmed, Additional Police Commissioner (Traffic) Md. Anisur Rahman, and senior officials from various ministries and agencies.
