



Mitamoin upazila BNP president Jahidul Alam Jahangir (60) was hacked to death while he was returning home in Mithamoin area on Wednesday night. Local BNP leader was also injured while trying to protect him.
On his way to home in the Beribandh area of the upazila headquarters from Mitamoin Bazar on Wednesday night, some miscreants equipped with sharp weapons ambushed him.
He was seriously injured in the attack and was first rescued and taken to Mithamoin Upazila Health Complex. Subsequently, when his condition deteriorated, he was shifted to Shaheed Syed Nazrul Islam Medical College Hospital (SSNIMCH) around 12:20 am, while on duty doctors declared him dead.
Confirming the death of Jahidul Alam , Mithamoin Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Monowar Mohammad said that the police arrested three miscreants named Helal (30), son of late Sultan Miah in Barguna Mohiuddin (32), son of Noor Hossain in Ramgati of Laxmipur, and Shakil Hossain Shaheen (25) son of Rahmatullah at Ramgati of Laxmipur district .
The body was kept at SSNIMCH morgue for an autopsy.
In this regard, Police Super of Kishoreganj Mizanur Rahman told the New Nation that an investigation was underway to determine the motive behind the killing.
Police have launched a drive to identify and arrested those involved in the murder.
District BNP president and State Minister for Textiles and Jute Shariful Alam, BNP senior leader Advocate Fazlur Rahman MP and District General Secretary Mazharul Islam MP have expressed deep shock and outrage over the murder.
In a statement, they demanded the immediate arrest of those involved in the incident and bringing them to justice.
