6 fishermen missing in Bay

Six fishermen have gone missing after a fishing trawler carrying 11 people sank in the Bay of Bengal off Patuakhali’s Rangabali upazila.The incident occurred on Sunday night (5 July) while the fishermen were fishing in deep waters, around 60 kilometres south of the Moudubi area.

The missing fishermen have been identified as Imadul Kha, 45, of Tularam village; Harun, 60, of Kharida village; Forkan, 45; Sayed, 20; Al-Amin, 40, of Adani village; and Akkas, 25, of Pakshia village.

Five others survived the accident after clinging to parts of the capsized trawler and a buoy for nearly six hours before being rescued.According to the survivors, the trawler, owned by Imadul Sikder of Kharida village, overturned due to strong currents while operating in the deep sea.

The rescued fishermen were later taken to Rangabali Upazila Health Complex, where they received primary treatment.A search operation is underway to find the missing fishermen.

Rangabali Police Station Officer-in-Charge Jashim Uddin said police were aware of the incident, but the area where the trawler sank falls under the jurisdiction of Golachipa Police Station.
