River erosion going on: Flood situation improves slightly in Kurigram

Water level of all the rivers including the Dharla,Teesta,Dudkumer and Brahmaputra have been receded slightly but river erosion is going on in some points rendering a good number of river side people homeless.
The Brahmaputra river engulfed Beparitary bazar,Mosque and Masterpara village of Noonkhawa union under Nageswari upazila in the district have been eroded here within the last seven days and more than 60 houses eroded. The erosion victims took shelter on dykes and other high lands. Sarisuri,char Noonkhawa village Boalmari primary school and Noonkhawa High School are being threatened.
The map of the union is changing daily due river erosion, chairman of Noonkhawa union council Shahjalal Mollah said. North and east Miahpara village of Pakhiura under narayanpur union of the upazila have been washed away and about 55 families became homeless here, local sources said. In addition Kalar char, Talpatty, Austoashir char, Majhealy, chaddoghuri , Jhaukuti, Balahat and Natun char village are being eroded.The Dudkumer river is eroding at old Fakirganj,Fandirvita,C & B ghat area and embankment under Kaligani union of the upazila are also being eroded, Chairman of Noonkhawa unmion council Noor Islam said.
The river is also engulfing at Char Berubari, namachar, Khelarvita,Islampur and Shalmari unser Berubari union and Pachmatha Panatitary Teleanikuti, under Bamondanga union are being eroded.
On the other hand, the Brahmaputra River is eroding at Jorgach area under Chilmari upazila in the district for the last 15 days devouring about 150 houses and forced the river side poor people to be homeless and landless there.
