243 admission cancellations at CoU in five years

A total of 243 students have cancelled their admissions at Comilla University over the past five academic sessions, according to university data.

The withdrawals, many of which occurred after academic activities had already begun, left a significant number of seats vacant as the university had no opportunity to fill them.

According to data obtained from the Academic Section of the Registrar’s Office, the highest number of cancellations was recorded in the 2022-23 academic session, when 77 students withdrew, while the lowest number was in 2020-21, with 25 students.

The figures stood at 43 in 2021-22, 47 in 2023-24, and 51 in 2024-25.

The data further show that, among the 243 students who cancelled their admissions, the Faculty of Science accounted for the highest number, with 97 students, while the Faculty of Law recorded the lowest, with only two students.

The Faculty of Social Sciences recorded 71 cancellations, followed by Business Studies with 33, Engineering with 23, and Arts and Humanities with 17.

Analysis of the data shows that the number of admission cancellations rose from 25 in the 2020-21 session to 43 in 2021-22, marking an increase of around 72 percent.

The figure increased further to 77 in the 2022-23 session, representing a rise of nearly 79 percent compared to the previous year.
